Air travel has become so popular that you will hardly find a place on earth, where you can not reach by air. This obsession with air travel has led to mushroom growth of airports around the world. When I look at the pictures below, I ask yourself this question. “What on earth, they were thinking , when they put that landing stripe there?”
Let’s put it in another way. Draw a 3 feet wide path on the floor and ask a person to walk over it. he could go dancing all the way. Now take that same 3 feet path, hang it between two high rise buildings and ask the person to walk across. 98% will decide not to walk over it. Same is true with these Airport Runways.
All of my pilot friends agree that the photos below are an airline pilot’s worst nightmare. These are indeed world’s most difficult landing approaches. It needs a lions heart ( or Instrument Landing) to land an aircraft there.

the last one O.o
I don’t see how it would be hard to land at many of those. The surroundings of the landing strip have no bearing on how hard it would be to land a plane on it at all, the only factors are weather, what the plane is, and the surface/length of the strip. Those photos show some interesting strips, but they’re no harder to land on than others, perhaps even easier since there’s less likely to be other planes around for waiting time, collisions, etc.
Yeah the views are beautiful but I like my girls landing strip better.

@Theo I am learning.. don’t worry
and where are these places? would be fun to try them out on flight sim…
i am not even old enough to fly and i know that the surroundings will make all the difference…if you have a strip thats bad and you stick it in a valley between 2 mountains, it will be completely unlandable. i like da pics 2…what were some of the people who designed these thinking? are all these airstrips in use?
As a pilot, I can confirm that all but the last landing strip are perfectly usable by anyone who has had a decent amount of training. If you have water on either side of the runway the worst thing that can happen is you get a little wet. On the other hand, a mountain or a gully at either end can make things a lot more complicated.
charles, look on youtube, there’s a mess of videos of planes taking off and landing on that last one.
wow.its going to be a nightmare to the new pilots.
