Difficult Landings: Toncontin International Airport, Honduras

At 1658 meters, Toncontín International Airport in Honduras is one of the shortest runways that allow large body aircrafts like Boeing 757.  Earlier we did a series on Most Difficult Landing Approaches where we mentioned some of the runways of similar size and nature.

Tricky Approach

It takes skill and practice to land a plane on this runway. The Area surrounding the airport is made up of steep mountains and cliffs. It is impossible to approach the landing strip heads on. So the plane has to take a sharp turn and and approach the runway from a tilted angle. Most significant part of this approach is the sharp turn just before the landing. the collection of  videos below will give you some idea.
