Top 10 Driving Tips for Winter Commuting

Unless you can afford to go away and relax in a sunny destination each winter, It is hard to escape the cold and chilly season full of darkness and snow. If you have to drive to and from work each day like most of commuters do, you have to adapt very quickly to the changing driving conditions. Some driver make this transition quickly while for some it is a hard transition.

For some years now, I follow a quick checklist for myself to ensure that I drive safely during the snowy and freezing cold road conditions. Today, I would be sharing this list with you here. The key for safe winter driving is to adapt to quickly and properly. Please feel free to print these and share with your loved ones and friends.

Winter Driving Tips

  1. Don’t travel alone, Start early and never haste to a destination NEVER.driving_in_snow_
  2. Do not use cruise control feature. Drive Slow and with full attention.
  3. Never tail another vehicle up close. Keep your distance from the next vehicle more than you typically should under normal driving conditions.
  4. Replace you stock tires with Snow Tires with better grip. Change all 4 tires as this is vital for better traction and handling on snow and slippery road.
  5. Go through your vehicle routine checklist twice. Check fluids, lights, brakes, tires and wipers every time you take it out of garage. Never ignore warning lights. Antifreeze is an essential winter ingredient for your car’s engine.
  6. Keep an emergency kit in your car which should include, washer fluid, blanket, first-aid kit, extra clothing and footwear for two people.
  7. Keep your mobile phone fully charged. It is wise to keep and extra fully charged battery in your pocket.
  8. Always remove snow from your hood,  both bumpers, front lights back lights and roof before you start the car.
  9. Always try to check road and weather conditions before you start your journey. there are many web sites, TV stations and Radio channels.
  10. Drive slower than your normal speed well below the speed limits. wear the seatbelts at all times. they save lives.
