You might have heard that the cost of dining out in Japan is considerably higher that what a common man can easily afford, but this is not always the case. As a matter of fact, you can find out various types of foods in Japan for less than US10$.

Some of the low-cost foods available in Japan are discussed below:

Bento Boxes

A choice of ready-made bento boxes is commonly available at grocery stores or convenience stores in Japan at an average cost of as low as US5$ or even lower. In Japan, these convenience stores are known as konbini. A major portion of rice and a variety of seafood and/or meat are commonly available in the market or you could also try a refreshing zaru soba (cold soba noodles) bento in summer.

A delicious variety of mixed sushi or sashimi is also available for you to enjoy for less than US$6.

Noodles

Hanamaru Udon is big fast food chain in Japan. On signs in English, Hanamaru is read ‘Manmaru’. It is famous for its thick wheat based noodle, known as Udon. It has 187 branches trough out Japan and its restaurants are frequented by a huge number of customers. According to an estimate this food chain serves over 2.5 million customers each month

Usually an English Menu is offered at Hanamaru. But, while eating, if you are fond of trying new and exciting things and do not feel afraid to eat something that contains one or two unknown or mystery ingredients, then the picture menu would be enough for your satisfaction.udon_eating cheap in japan 3

If this not what you like and feel satisfied with then you should try the kake udon (plain, pictured above) which costs around US$2 or bukake udon (with lemon) is also good option for you to try for approximately US$3 and you may supplement it with a variety of ala carte tempura or onigri (rice balls) many starting at as low as under US$1 per piece. The curry rice set of the Beef Bowl is available for under US$6 and both include a small bowl of udon in broth. This dish is sufficient enough to satiate heartier appetites.

Hanamaru Udon also gives a choice of dinner and lunch for much lower costs. A satiating and delicious lunch or dinner for two can be enjoyed for between US$10-15 at Hanamaru Udon.ramen_noodles-eating cheap japan

For those who like ramen noodles, local shops or Ippudo Ramen are there for them to enjoy their choice of meal. They can join the salarymen and women at those local shops for a similar experience and enjoy this with a pork based broth and thinner noodles all for around US$8.

Donburi

Donburi is a tasty one bowl dish which comprises a big portion of rice topped with vegetables, sashmi, meat or tempura and to add more taste to it a savory sauce is poured over it.

My favorite dish is the ebi-tempura don. It is available in market for around US$8.

One Cup Sake that can be purchased for around US$2

This ends our guide on surviving  Japan in under $10 USD!
