There are many ways of doing something very exiting and entertaining but above all is traveling. Traveling is the hobby of many individuals in this great world. People usually go to spend some time with their family once a year. This is really great fun but it depends on the location you choose. Sometimes the location can be dangerous. If you are planning to travel one of the following countries it could be dangerous. The countries mentioned below are famous for their kidnap cases and the ransom demand usually in six to eight figures. You must have heard in news about these kidnappings. The average money paid for these cases ranges up to 6 Million USD.
1. Haiti
It is one of the least developed countries in America. Eighty percent of the population is living below the line of poverty. They kidnap the rich Haitians, envoys, NGO workers and tourists. Over half of the population is illiterate and they make up their revenue by kidnapping. Portau Prince, the capital city of this country is flourishing with the street crimes and gangs. If you are still thinking to leave for Haiti, then the multicolored art, fascinating and vibrant culture and music and spiritual people are its main attractions.
2. Iraq
This is the country which is flourished by Sumerians and Babylonians in ancient times. After the invasion of America in 2003, the country is in the state of disorder and chaos. Kidnapping cases (of foreign tourists) are reported on regular basis in this country but it comes to surprise that it is one of the most visited place in this era.
3. Afghanistan
In the past this country was the center of ancient empires. But in the past twenty five years this country has changed into a state of disorder and war and is in volatile situation. Now days this country is under the war which is led by NATO against Taliban and Al-Qaeda. Foreigners are targeted frequently. It is recommended to avoid get together, traveling alone especially at night. Embassies are often targeted by suicide bombers.
4. Chechnya
Southern part of Russia is in the state of a war between Russian forces and Chechen separatists, after the collision of Russian Federation in 1991. This area is rich in natural resources like petrochemicals, natural gas and oil etc but the infrastructure in deteriorating day by day. If you forget about this prevailing situation at all then, this country is blessed by beautiful mountainside, mineral waterfalls which make it a great spa center.
5. Nigeria
It is the most populous country of Africa. The people living here belong to 200 different races which is the major cause of shaking economy. This country is also famous for its emails scams. Moe than 200 oil workers have been kidnapped in this country and the issue had always been resolved by ransom money. According to reports, these foreign workers were working near the Niger Delta. The areas like Bakassi Peninsula, Bayelsa or the Delta are famous for kidnappings and habitat of armed gangs. There is high risk of getting infected by Malaria and AIDS/HIV. Travelers are also advised to be vaccinated against yellow fever before entering in the country.
6. Philippines
This is the land of nearly 7,107 islands. People are very friendly. But some areas of this country are not recommended for traveling like North Cotabato, Mindanao, Zamboanga peninsula, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and the Sulu archipelago. Apart from robberies and kidnappings there are other threats as well. Local people mix drugs in the drinks of the visitors which can make them unconscious in minutes. Some cases are reported where the tourists not only lose their wealth and also lose their body parts like kidneys.
7. Venezuela
If you just keep aside the street crime, kidnappings and political instability, then Venezuela is the country of spectacular landscapes and longest waterfalls. If you are planning to visit this country then beware of pickpockets. Street crimes usually occur and are a part of daily routine. If you are in Venezuela then don’t try to look as tourists i.e. don’t wear jewelry or watches don’t hold maps in your hands avoid taking pictures and don’t visit poor areas. It is advisable to stay in the area allocated and safe for tourists.
8. Colombia
The major attractions here are;
- National parks
- High mountains,
- Cruise boats or
- Soaring skyscrapers
It seems that it is least troubled visiting country. Ruling body is doing its best to improve safety conditions but still drug dealers, kidnappers, murders are lowering its value for tourism. Guerilla operations are prevailing in the rural areas of the country. The visitors should especially avoid border areas.
9. Brazil
Swarming with beaches and natural forests, it is the largest country in South America. It is continent’s most lively and multicolored place. Kidnapping of visitors is a usual thing. Pickpockets are also wandering down the street so leave all your costly items in the hotel. Brazil is also facing the increasing number of patients suffering form yellow fever and dengue fever.
10. Mexico
With the most vibrant and colorful mixture of city life and ancient way of living, Mexico is still in the list of dangerous country for visitors. Street crimes, kidnappings, corruption is prevailing in the country especially in the border areas like Tijuana, Nogales or Juarez. As advised above it is better not to look like a tourist and dress up like the native people.

Did you make this list or is it based on a statistical research?
Not to criticize, I’m just curious
I would imagine Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil to be somewhat safe for tourists, as long as you know what you’re doing.
It would be interesting to see a list of the most dangerous cities for tourists…
“Did you make this list or is it based on a statistical research?”
Allow me to answer: no. Just another “I have to post something”, how about a stupid “top 10″ list, with no basis in fact. Total fud.
I agree, there are FAR more dangerous countries than Mexico/Philippines. You have included only ONE African country!!
I VISIT HAITI TWICE EVERY 3 MONTHS FOR THAT COUNTRY TO BE THE #1 MOST DANGEROUS COUNTRY IN THE WORLD IS ABSURD THERE ARE MORE CRIMES IN BROOKLYN IN A MONTH THEN A WHOLE YEAR IN HAITI . THRE ARE NO SUICIDE BOMBERS, NO ONES EVER WALK INTO A BUSINESS SHOOT EVERYONE THEN KILLS HIMSELF, LITLE KIDS ARE NOT ABDUCTED EVERYDAY NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN OR FOUND DEAD.HAITI IS A POOR COUNTRY NO DOUBT IT BUT THEY HAVE THE UPMOST RESPECT FOR TOURIST. I’LL LIKE FOR YOU TO YOUR READERS HOW MANY TOURIST HAD BEEN ABDUCTED OR HURT IN HAITI IN THE PAST, I’LL BET YOU WONT BE ABLE TO. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.
theres no way Venezuela is more dangerous than places like the Congo, Burma or Sudan. There are hundred of places in the United States alone that are more dangerous than some of the places on this list. This is a really bad article made by a person with little knowledge of world affairs.
you dont know what your talking about, your honestly an imbecil omega16, i live in venezuela and i know about 12 people that have been kidnapped and out of the 12, 2 were killed, and 30% of the cars are bulletproof, so go fuck around someplace else with you ignorance, you american limited fuck
Fuck all this shit!!! they jus be talkin shit about other countries wen theres violence here in america!!!!!!!
People who are commenting here just don’t know shit!! The places mentions here are indeed dangerous!! And they’re not based on some random news report; search for “Crime rate by country” and “Murder rate by country” statistics. You’d surprised how WRONG you all are for making such ignorant comments. Just because some of these places are tourist destinations, doesn’t mean that they’re safe! But one thing I got to object with the writer is the inclusion of Afghanistan and Iraq which are pretty much war zones. They’re not under normal circumstances like the other ones on the list, in fact, without war, those 2 nations are considerably safer than the other ones mentioned. Apart from that these are all true. It seems that a lot of places which people think are “safe” are indeed very dangerous (Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, etc.) just because there’re “friendly and easy going” people there doesn’t mean that they’re safe. But some of the places people would think are dangerous like parts of the middle east or Burma or Pakistan, etc are actually much safer on a day-to-day basis, assuming there’s no war, no suicide attack.
Thank you very much for your help friend! A very sane comment at last
listen phil the pill .
you are so freaking stupid! xD OMG you made me laugh so hard about the kidnap thing. you say that area isent bad at all? yet you claim you know 12 people whove been kidnaped and 2 were killed? omg are you stupid!!!!?!?! that is horrable! x.x; you should get your facts strait faggot
they should have thrown the U.S in there
the most scary and shit country is isreal
Once again, you forgot The United States Of America, and I´m an american though..
i have no idea why the philippines is on there. anyone with a brain would know not to travel to those areas of the philippines and besides, those areas are far away from any of the normal tourist destinations.
I actually took avcom’s avise and guess what? The top 10 crime rates are from 1)Colombia; 2) SA; 3) Jamaica; 4) Venezuela; 5) Russia; 6) Mexico; 7) Estonia;
Latvia; 9) Lithuania; and 10) Belarus.
This author really doesn’t know what he’s writing – only 3 countries feature on his list! This writeup may have been written to support embassy workers seekng higher Harzard Allowances, otherwise the research methodology should have been put up.
Oh Lies… What country you from?
hey hey wait a minute nigeria is not a dangerous cuntry so stay away
I guess, you should not did this if you feel that the comments herein are valid. One guy said you should have included USA, which is true. Not because a country belongs to the 1st World kinda thing, they are not dangerous for tourists at all. Also, the other comment like Burma. And maybe India or Turkey? And some Middle East countries, more in Africa. I guess you never mentioned even one in Europe. Whatever, your bases are, you should be well-versed and well-travelled first with almost all countries before you publish your comments. You may be hurting the tourism of these countries so better be cautious.
OH MY! I live in the philippines! Good thing i dont live in the bad part of it
I got some good friends there too! I learned to speak english instead of tagalog, but im not so good in english though. Mostly, just basic english words… Manila is a one safe part of the Philippines!
My dad told me there was a war on Mindanao, thats why he added that on the list! My dad wonders who made this, HOW’D YOU KNOW THIS STUFF!
The war on Mindanao has went on for YEARS! My dad said it started when he was a KID! That was long ago! O.O
NICE WEBSITE! It doesn’t say who made it…
Most of the countries listed here are dangerous, sure. Particularly Nigeria, othe rparts of Africa need to be mentioned though. Recently Somalia was voted the number one most dangerous place on this planet. Its the most corrupt and the only way you could ever get there is by somehow getting past the border with Kenya, then if you’re english or american you would get kidnapped fairly quickly or picked on as these two nations the locals hate!
Obviously afghan and iraq, but yes they are warzones so it goes without saying. Algeria is apparently really bad, as is Sudan. Egypts getting worse, particularly routes into Cairo. However Gambia is the most friendly African country there is, the smiling coast yay!
There is one big problem with this list (and with Emma’s argument as well – though her’s is at least factual). You cannot consider “crime rate” above “rate of crime against tourists.” The crime rate and murder rate in Mexico and Belize are exceedingly high (Belize is 5 times that of US). But in terms of violence against tourists you are much more likely to be killed visiting Egypt (where the crime and murder rates are low) than in Mexico. The US State Dept. says that 200 US citizens have been killed in Mexico in the last 5 years. They also say that 120+ of those were themselves involved in the illicit drug trade. Number US visitors to Mexico in the last 5 years approx. 82 million. Total number of tourists (all nationalities) in Mexico in 2008 23 million.
Sorry but I have to tell you something, if you have a travel agency you have serious lacking in foreign affairs. I’ve been in Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela and those places are absolutely fantastic. I felt in danger in Venezuela; however It depends on you and on the places that you’re. Bogota and the Colombian Caribbean beaches are simply amazing, and Mexico is great and their people as well. I recommend you researching and going through before to publish this kind of thing.
What about somaila, North Korea, Sudan, yemen, parts of pakistan, Iran, zimbabwe etc????????
O I just remembered Americans don’t travel very far.
i feel bad about the post but I think Philippines has a lot to offer to tourists. The incidents mentioned are isolated cases, all countries have robberies, chances of injuries. Why not include USA? I heard that NEw YOrk city is also a dangerous place for tourists, gangsters, racist right?
Are these commenters teenagers? Mexico is horribly dangerous, but just as the posts says, places like TJ (Cancoon is too commerical and touristy to be dangerous). I’ve had friends who wound up in a TJ jail for lack of bribe money (NOT A PLACE YOUD WANNA BE) and others who were actually driven by policia to ATMs to withdraw money for bribes.. clearing out their bank accounts. Also, don’t forget the drug war related murders by gangs along the border… much of their wepons are assault rifles from the US converted to full auto.
Philippines is a great country with some of the most friendly people in the world (seriously, met some great friends there). But it also doesn’t take an idiot to see the armed guards outside every business in Manila, or the guards in the front of neighborhoods with shotguns…
Of course my opinion is NOT that you should avoid these countries as you’ll be sheltering yourself from rich cultures and great people. Just be SMART, and stay safe!
NB
Yellow fever in Brazil?
What are you talking about?
Take the time to inform yourself before writting stupid posts…
i’m sorry after reading these comment and doing my own research i’d have to agree that new york, and little havanah in dade county miami should have made the list, I was shocked that the southern parts of yemen did make it either, i can only guess the author was looking to be original so much so he skipped a few odvious ones
