Holiday Season travel has started in the US, with the Thanksgiving Weekend. All the flights are packed, and if unfortunately, a passenger misses on a connecting flight, he/she may have a hard time re-booking due to the busy season.

Moreover, due to the busy schedule and cutbacks at airlines, all the staff is stressed, and the number of flights to certain destinations may have decreased, again making it harder to rebook a flight.

Thus here are some tips to help you to travel by air smoothly.

  • Choose an early flight

Most of the times, early flights leave on time, as there are less chances for delayed flights to accumulate.

  • Book a direct flight if possible

You may even have to pay a little extra, to fly direct, but it will surely save you from a lot of hassle. Every connecting flight increases the chances of missing on the next flight.

  • Go for a longer gap between connecting flights

Mostly, a 45-minute difference between flights works well, but the stress and the anxiety to catch the nest flight starts even before you board the first plane. Also, if you are traveling with kids, it will get harder for you to race through an airport to make a connection.

  • Try to book on phone

Booking online may save you a little time and money, but it allows less control over connecting flights. If you book through phone, you can plan your trip more precisely.

  • Triple check your ticket

Check the departure time carefully. If mistakenly you miss your flight, you’ll have a hard time rebooking. Also check your email and check online for any changes in flight times.

  • Hold that plane!

Don’t hope that if your plane is late and hasn’t landed yet, the connecting flight will be held for you. A flight might only be held if a considerable number of passengers is involved, but don’t count on it.

To facilitate families, US airports now have family lanes at security checkpoints. However, keep in mind that these lanes may move more slowly; as the same lanes also have passengers carrying medically-necessary liquids, and aerosols such as baby formula, cough syrup, prescription meds, contact lens solution, etc.
