Entertainment venues, stores, hospitals and other such places where people go in large numbers, use secret codes to pass information between their employees. These secret codes are used in crowded places by employees, so that they don’t alarm the non-staff members or alert some suspicious person.
Many big stores such as Wal-Mart have their own codes. Here is the list of 10 secret codes, which will be useful to you or will lower down your curiosity in future if you heard any of them.
1 – Code Adam
Virtually Code Adam was invented by Wal-Mart but now its internationally known code alert. This code means, “missing child”. It was first coined in 1994 in the memory of a six-year-old child Adam Walsh who was lost in a Sears department store in Florida in 1981. Later on that child’s dead body was found. 
When this code is announced the security person will say, “ we have a code Adam” in real that means there is a child missing. Right away when the code Adam will be announced all of the security staff will start to monitor the doors and other exits of the place. If child is found in 10 minutes then police is informed and store search begins.
In 2003 U.S. Congress passed legislation to make compulsory “Code Adam” program in all federal office buildings.
There is another similar code called AMBER alert.
2 – Wal Mart
Wal Mart has its own large number of codes that are store specific. Some of their codes are not concerned about you such as code 10 or a code 20 only means that there had been a dry spill or a wet spill.
For security call there is a code 300 and orange code means chemical spill.
But here are some the code that you really need to know: if there is fire in building then code red will be announced so when you hear that then right away try to exit the building. Code blue means that there is a bomb in the building, if you heard that code then exit the building swiftly and don’t run because if you will run then you can be caught under the obligation of planting the bomb in building.
Code green means hostage situation and code white means that there is an accident. The code, which you will like more, is the simple code c and that means customer service.
3 – Inspector Sands
Inspector Sands or Mr. Sands is the code for fire in England. Though for store staff it’s not good to make panic their customers by announcing straight away about fire that’s why this code used to alert the appropriate staff without upsetting the customers.
If there is any bomb for that in U.K. frequently used code is “Mr. Gravel”.
4 – Code Bravo
Code Bravo is used for general security alert on the airports. When this code alert is raised on the airport the security agents starts yelling “ Code Bravo” in order to frighten the passengers so that they can easily found the source of trouble without interference of public.
On ships Code Bravo means fire, and on ship this is the most serious alert and on ship if you hear that then that mean get off from the ship to save life. Ships also use sound signals such as 7 short and 1 long, meaning, “ Man the lifeboats”.
5- Code Oscar
This code usually is used on the ships and it means some had gone overboard. There is no specified internationally standardized set of PA signals, that’s ship signals differ from place to place, but Code Oscar is fairly commonly used code. On ship code delta means biological hazard and code alpha means medical emergency.
6-Doctor Brown
As from the word “ Doctor Brown” any one can know that this code is related to hospitals. If any person from medical staff like nurse or doctor is in danger from any violent patient or any other non staff member they can page Doctor Brown to their location and the security staff will rush to there to help them.
In some hospitals code silver is used that is used to refer to a person with any weapon. Code gray means violent person without weapon.
Hospital used codes are not internationally recognized so they differ from hospital to hospital.
7 – Code 10
In hospitals code 10 indicates about a massive casualty or serious threat. But commonly a merchant uses this code when he needs to call a credit card company to enquire about your card.
When Credit Card Company gets the code 10 from the merchant then they asks the merchant serious type of yes/no questions to know what is the situation.
8 – Time Check
Time Check or the Time is 12:00 can be a bomb alert code in the stores. Announcement of this code is to alert the store staff to look for any suspicious package or to get the hell out. If you hear that in the store then it will be better for you to move towards the exit.
9 – Professional Codes
For computer support there are variety of codes, which are used while referring to a customer. Some of these codes are becoming well known now on the Internet such as PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair) but there so many other codes which are unknown to majority. Some other such codes are PICNIC (problem in chair- not in computer), or ID 10 T Error, ID 10 T means IDIOT.
10 – Ten Codes
Ten Codes this is a list of codes used by U.S. law enforcement officers. These codes were developed in 1934 and were expanded in 1974.
California police use variety of extra codes that predated the ten codes. Such a 187 means homicide, in ten-code system 10-31 means that a crime is in progress and 10-00 (ten double zero) means officer down.
