Here we have a very interesting collection of some very beautiful designs of architecture. The most interesting fact about these buildings is that they were planned to built but were actually not built due to various reasons.Gaudi American hotel

In 1908 a very unusual design was created by c.The building was named Hotel Attraction. Because it was going to be the tallest building in New York at that time. Its planned height was 360 meters / 1181 ft which was very unique for that time. But later on it was cancelled and was lost in the pages of history. The Illinois Frank Lloyd Wright

The Illinois is the next in the list of the buildings that remained incomplete. It was designed in 1956 by Frank Lloyd Wright. This was also going to be the tallest building almost 1,609 meters/5,280 feet that was really not possible because of the lack of space. It was going to be a 528 stories building. It required an area of 18.46 million square feet. Thus later on it was not made.

The Fourth Grace

Then comes The Fourth Grace. Architect Will Alsop designed it in 2002 for Liverpool England. The design was very criticized because of its uniqueness. He named this project The Cloud. This building was planned for office space,a 107 room hotel with community facilities like pubs, bar, viewing gallery and restaurant. But all this was costly more than expectations. So the project was cancelled. Beacon of Progress

In 1891 an architect came up with a new design for Jackson Park Chicago. It was said that this structure was going to be the tallest man made object by far. It was named Beacon of Progress. It was designed for an amphitheater to seat almost 100,000 people with piers extending into the Lake Michigan.

Ville Contemporaine, designed in 1922 for Paris was for housing three million inhabitant. It was going to be a sixty storey sky scraper built on the frames of steel with walls of glass. There were going to be the offices and apartments of the rich people of the city.A transportation center was also planned for buses and trains with a highway and an airport. But for many years this plan was delayed due to the growing slums and was finally cancelled.Tatlin’s Tower

Tatlin’s Tower was going to be a great mega structure. So big that Eiffel Tower would have been dwarfed before it. This tower was to be built with various industrial materials like steel, glass and iron and technically very modern. According to the designer its base would have a rotating cube that would complete its rotation within one year. This part was designed for holding conferences, lectures and legislative meetings. On this rotating cube there would be a smaller pyramid for executive activities. This pyramid would also complete rotation once a month.Shimizu Mega-City Pyramid

Shimizu Mega-City Pyramid was supposed to be built over Tokyo Bay in Japan. It is also believed that it would have been the largest man made building in the whole world. This mega structure would be 12 times bigger than the great Pyramid at Giza and over 750,000 would have been residing here. It would be having 55 smaller pyramids each sizing the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. This plan was cancelled because of the unavailability of super strong but light weight building materials.

The next design is made by Eugene Tsui named the Ultima Tower. It was planned to reside one million residents having 500 stories and almost two miles high. The shape of this structure is an inspiration from African termite nests. But later on it was also not built.

In 1933 a mega structure was designed for Moscow Soviet Union. It was named Palace of Soviets. It was also supposed to be the tallest building ever. The location that was chose for it was the demolished cathedral of holy Christ. Actually a contest was held for the design of the palace and 272 designers participated and send there designs from all over the world. Boris Lofan won this contest. The most interesting thing about this mega structure is that its construction was started in 1937 but was stopped because of German invasion.

Volkshalle (The Great Dome) was designed by Adolf Hitler and Albert Speer. This plan was also going to be the most important and special of its kind because of its size and unusual design. As we see the pedestal with a Nazi eagle is really symbolic.   But the great Dome was never built because of the breaking of the war.
