10 Gigantic Atlantic Ocean Liners

Liners are the huge ships to carry the passengers through rough seas to their destination. They were used to move wealthy immigrants between New York and Europe through North Atlantic oceans. RMS Queen Elizabeth II

Most of the grand old liners are left in memories only. They were highly superb in their service, luxuriousness, status, facilities and in length too. They had won the prize for the fastest Atlantic crossing.

Note that Atlantic Liner is different from a cruise ship which is made for quiet sea and entertainment whereas, liners are made to deal with jagged north Atlantic climate and to carry passengers.

1. RMS Queen Elizabeth II

Launching Year: 1969

QE2 was launched at the ending age of the Atlantic liners and remained the only luxury ship till 2004 (aside from the Norway). It moved through Atlantic & many other ports in Sydney, Australia and other places. Its life came to an end in 2008 and now it will be a hovering hotel in Dubai.

RMS Olympic 2. RMS Olympic

Launching Year:  1911

The Olympic (nicknamed Old Reliable) lived more than Titanic and Britannic (which was sunk while acting as a hospital ship rather than passenger service). It served from 1911 to 1935 and was dishonored for colliding with other ships. British Law chose it as a supplementary cruiser. In 1918, Olympic crashed with submarine and scuttled the boat. But she remained popular and was put to rest in mid- 1930’s. Then in 1937, it was crumbed.

3. SS United States

Launching Year: 1952

SS United States SS United States is famous for its top rated pace which is a state secret. She was made for passenger service as well as military service. All the liners had a tough time in 1960 as the jumbo jet reinstated the comfort and leisurely travel of then ocean liners. SS United States silently embraces the westbound Blue Riband and was bought by the Norwegian Cruise Line in 2004.

4. SS Normandie

Launching Year: 1932

SS Normandie Normandie was the most famous, ultra modern and a profitable liner of 1930’s. She had a steam turbo-electric power-plant, a clean upper floor and comfy appointments throughout. In the war of 1939, Normandie gashed in New York and stayed there. When Americans entered into the war, they renamed her as USS Lafayette but then it didn’t navigate. In an effort to recover the Normandie, she caught fire and was disposed off in 1946.

5. RMS Mauretania

Launching Year: 1906

RMS Mauretania The Mauretania was the 1st Atlantic ocean speedy liner. This deluxe ship was strengthened by its powerful steam turbines. She enjoyed the status of beloved ship for 3 decades. Mauretania detained the Blue Riband for 20 years, after that Breman got it. She was disposed off in 1935.

6. SS Bremen

Launching Year: 1929

SS Bremen Germany restored her prized place on the seas with the arrival of Bremen and sister ships. This ultra modern ship was smooth, grand, fast, lavish and wet & became the craze of 1930s. She became more popular than dry American ships but the next war brought her end. She was turned to a garrison in the war and devastated in 1941 by arson. Finally, it was scrapped in 1946.

7. RMS Queen Mary

Launching Year: 1934

RMS Queen Mary British designed 1st Queen Mary to replace an old Mauritania and Aquitania & to bring back their magnificence on seas. QM being traditional became more popular than modern Normandie. QM was the most wanted prize for the German U-Boats in WWII. After the war, the QM ruled the sea but now she has been laid down as a hotel & tourist lure in Beach.

8. SS France/SS Norway

Launching Year: 1961

SS France SS Norway It is one of the most illustrious last immense Atlantic liners. She was a subject to pride for France for 15 years. France expressed grief on its laid up and sold her to Norwegian Cruise Line renaming it Norway. She remained in use from 1980 to 2001. Then she had many dilemmas but worked out to retain its popularity. Norway was further sold many times with modifications and laid up today for environmental dreads. She was scrapped in 2008.

9. SS Rex

Launching Year: 1932

SS Rex Italy made Rex and others after the WWI, in response to Germany’s new liners. Rex got the Blue Riband in 1933 for 2 years. Rex is committed to memory as it stopped the American bombers in 1938 and saved Italy even being far out to sea. Italy laid up Rex during the war but cronies sank her in 1944.

10. RMS Queen Marry II

Launching Year: 1969

RMS Queen Marry II Due to continuous traveling of Queen Elizabeth through Atlantic, Queen Marry II was built and it is the largest Atlantic super liner in the history. QM2 was initially built for Atlantic oceans but it can go through any sea in the world. It’s at no.10 just because she hasn’t been around much long.
