The traditional indigenous costume of Guatemala called traje is really very colorful dress in the America. Guatemala people are spread over many parts of the world but they do not keep on following their native dress. Still within the Guatemala local people remains on wearing their traditional costume proudly. These people speak specific or language Maya traje. In Guatemala there are nearly 12 different villages with 21 languages. So, the people of highland Maya are clearly identified by their charming and decorated costumes.
Costume of Nebaj Town

The women of Nebaj town wear the most remarkable costume in Guatemala. Their traditional wear is red skirt and a woven belt called “faja”. The skirt has two yellow stripes on both sides. The blouse is decorated with heavy embroidery. The women of Nebaj wrap their complete hairs skillfully with a colorful woven cloth hair dress. The men wear an open jacket called “chaqueta” and a hat made of palm straw along with western-style pants.
Costume of Santiago Atitlan Town
As the town of Santiago is located near lake so the main task and source of income of the Santiago people is fishing, boating, gathering reeds, and other activities related to the lake. Relative to their work men of Santiago wear short pants with a yellow hat made of palm straw. Their women wear a blouse of white cloth embroidered with multi colored figures of animals, birds and flowers. However, mainly purple-striped are made.
Costume of Aguacatan Town
The women of Aguacatan town wear the most beautiful headdress among the clothing of women’s in many Highland Maya towns. The head wrap is made up of a 2-3 inch wide cloth heavily embroidery with brocaded designs, and at the end there is a large fringe. Although they have largely given up weaving their own blouse and skirt material, still they take great pleasure in making their head wraps. It is wrapped around the long hairs and pulled across the forehead. The width with embroidery front is exposed across the top of the head, and the fringe hanging at each side.
Costume of Santa Catarina Palopo Town
Previously the women of Santa Catarina town wear the blouse with red fabric which is almost covered with pink embroidery and other colors. However, now this red color is replaced by deep blue. They used to wear plain cloth head wrap of different colors. is Small geometric figures are embroidered on it.
Costume of Todos Santas Cuchumatan
The Todos Santos men wears the pant with pure red and white-striped. Above the pant they used to wear dark blue-black wool jacket type costume. That wear is actually a sew cloth which hangs loosely with split front so that it d serves body-covering function. A collar of the shirt is embroidered heavily, with a western-style straw hat at top.
The blouse of woman of Todos Santos consists of a red- and white-striped fabric. The heavy embroidery with brocaded designs is done at the front of blouse. The collar is covered with rickrack and/or braid.
Costume of San Juan Atitan

The dress of San Juan is really unique and stylish. The red colored shirt is made up of two layers of cloth. The collar is stitched around the edges around but at the two ends it is hanged down. Due to this it can be also used as pockets. The pullover of dark brown wool is worn over the red shirt. The pullover is without sleeves and partly stitched. The sash or a belt is also worn with plain white pants. The costume is completed by flat straw hats.
