As every other year, 2010 left us on 31st December 2010 with a number of events which will be remembered in history. Some of them will become part of our happy memories, while others will be the ones which became the reason for grief and sorrow. In the list of all such events, there are only few which remain vivid in our memories for years and are difficult to forget. Here is the list of such important events of 2010, which embarked our memories forever.

On April 16th, a volcano in the glacier “Eyjafjallajokull” erupted and became the reason of ash in air. This ash cloud caused a huge air travel chaos in most of the parts of Europe. Many flights were dismissed, leaving passengers stranded at airports.

On January 12th, a strong earthquake jolted Port-au-Prince of Haiti. Earthquake was recorded of magnitude 7.0 on the Richter scale and it caused massive destruction in the area, leaving around 316,000 people dead, 300,000 injured and 1,000,000 homeless.

On August 7th, two rivers of Pakistan Chenab and Indus surged on both its sides, causing a huge damage to 890 small villages. Affection more than 4 million people, mainly tenant, daily wagers and small farmers.

WikiLeaks Founder Arrested

Julian Asange, who was the founder of WikiLeaks, which released around 250,000 diplomatic cables, detailed candid conversations between embassies of the world and Washington, was arrested on 7th December, 2010.

5. Tension at North-South Korea Border (Korea)

Tension at North-South Korea Border (Korea)

After the last Korean War in between 1950-1953, this was the first time when North Korea fired artillery shells into the territory of South Korea, which resulted in the death of four and injured around 20.

6. Aung San Suu Kyi Released (Myanmar)

Monasteries are not simply holy spots; these are the places also taken as most rich architectural masterpieces present on our earth. Though all monasteries are worth-seeing and mysterious in their unique perspective but some of them are more distinguished from others.

1. Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Bhutan)

Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Bhutan)

Taktshang: widely famous among the monasteries in Bhutan. It is located on a 3,120-mtr cliff at a height of about 700 meters from the Paro valley. The name ‘Taktshang’ was taken from the historical tale of Padmasambhava. It is told that he had flown to the monastery riding on the back of a tiger. This monastery has seven temples. All are opened for visitors; they can either reach to the monastery by foot or on a back of a mule.

The Monastery of Gregoriou (Greece)

This beautiful monastery was founded in the 14th century. It is located on the southwestern part of Mount Atos. This Gregorio Monastery (dedicated to Saint Nicholas) is regarded as best among the superbly organized coenobitic monasteries. Since 1990, seventy monks are living in this monastery, though they have been dwelling there for centuries.

In 1779, two monks – Gabriel and Gregory – decorated its walls. It also has large number of chapels and its treasury contains relics from all the previous times. Moreover, the bones of the Patriarch of Constantinople, St. Niphon, are also there; tourists come here to see them also.

3. Yumbulagang Monastery (Tibet)

Yumbulagang Monastery: it’s among the earlier constructions of Tibet and also the first palace to be constructed in the country. Though, this 2,000 year old structure was completely demolished during the Cultural evolution, but later on it was reconstructed and renovated in the 1980s. The entire history of Tibet is pictured on the painted murals on the walls of the Monastery.
