Theory of human evolution is the most debated theory in present era and Charles Darwin remains a prominent figure in this regard. And whenever there is a mention of Charles Darwin, his work on observing the wildlife at Galapagos Islands comes to our minds. The Islands get their name from Spanish word Galapagos meaning giant tortoise and these islands are rich in wildlife, both land and marine. They are under the control of Ecuador and due to numerous endangered species of wildlife; the Charles Darwin Research Station has been established on these islands to rehabilitate this endangered wildlife
Geology/evolution
Galapagos Island are the youngest islands with active volcanoes.

However their southeastern parts are relatively older and relatively much eroded. Due to their greater age, these portions are most likely to be inhabited by life as the life had greater time and opportunities to evolve here. This is also the reason as to why the species of the south eastern Galapagos Islands are significantly different from the rest in archipelago.
The Spaniard, including the Bishop of Panama, found the Islands difficult to sail away from due to the contrary currents and strong winds. These Islands were considered worthless as they were nearly devoid of fresh water. Therefore the Islands remained unclaimed by any country until 1832. Then government of Ecuador decided to establish a penal colony. However the islands have been visited by the whalers, sealers and buccaneers, who found the islands as convenient hideouts.
Aquatic Wildlife
Aquatic wildlife can best be observed by diving in water with them and a snorkeling kit or scuba diving apparatus are the ideal for the purpose. The waters are clear and surprisingly colder in temperature. The temperature ranges from 19 degrees C from May to December to 21 C in January to April.half an hour in this temperature can chill the swimmers quite thoroughly and the best remedy for this is the wet suit. However another option is to bring a couple of pairs of two-piece poly-pro long johns.
