In March of 1930 construction of the Empire State Building was started on the site of the old Waldorf – Astoria Hotel at 350 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street. Construction of the Empire State Building taken 14 months and was completed in May 1931. The architectural firm of Shreve, Lamb and Harmon Associates designed this building. The Empire State Building is having 102 stories and it was the tallest building in the world until the completion of the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan in 1972.

Height of the building is 1,472 feet (448 meters) till top of the antennae, 1,250 feet (391 meters) to 102nd floor observatory and 1,050 feet (320 meters) to 86th floor observatory.
Volume of the building is 37 million cubic feet and area of site is 83,860 square feet.
Total cost about its construction including the cost of the land is $40,948,900. The cost of building alone is $ 24,718,000.
