The Berchtesgaden National Park located in Bavaria (southeast Germany) is among the oldest nature reserves in the Alps. It provides an opportunity to tourists to get a charming feel of the Berchtesgaden Alps where nature has grown freely, largely without human involvement. The breathtaking Alpine landscape is shaped primarily of limestone deposits.

Walks, either guided or independent, in the national park are fantabulous ways to explore this pleasant landscape with its rocky peaks, scree slopes, Alpine hayfields and woods of mountain pines and green alders. One truly must-see is a visit to Lake Königssee that cuts like a fjord between Mount Watzmann, the “sea of rocks” area and the Hagen mountains. The water of lake is of good quality and truly fit for drinking; this shows how unspoiled the national park area is.

Would you like instant access to information on the buildings and scenery you see on your travels? A novel mobile phone program that is able to provide information on what you see when you see it, was a regional winner in the European Satellite Navigation Competition, sponsored by ESA’s Technology Transfer Program.

This novel use of satellite technology, created by Ernst Pechtl and Hans Geiger, combines three of today’s modern technologies: satellite navigation localization services, advanced object recognition and relevant internet retrieved information.
Ernst Pechtl, and Hans Geiger are co-owners of the company Super Wise Technologies AG, which has developed the Apollo image-recognition system that lies behind the eye-Phone.
How does it work? If you see something interesting while out walking for instance, you take a photograph with your mobile phone, select the item of interest with the cursor and in real time preprocessed information on the object selected is sent to your mobile phone.
