You might be unaware of the fact that once New Zealand was a part of Australia. However, in 1901, as Australia federated, it offered New Zealand to become one of its state, but New Zealand refused it and preferred staying independent.

New Zealand is famous for the bird known as kiwi. Kiwi is a beautiful bird that belongs to New Zealand and usually used for the people that belong to this country. New Zealand is among the countries that covered to way to democracy in a quick way. In 1893, it was among the fewer countries where there was equal right for both the men and women in New Zealand to vote.kiwi

New Zealand was first discovered by Europeans in 1642; however they could not stay over there. In 1769 an English captain visited the land again and drew a map of the land for the first time. New Zealand officially belongs to Queen Elizabeth II and she is represented by a governor.

According to “Quality of Living Survey” which was conducted by Mercer Consultings world’s top 10 places for living were ranked .The rankings are based on point index established by Mercer Consultings, Cities are compared with New York as the base city with an index score of 100.

The survey also highlights those cities with the highest personal safety ranking based on internal stability, crime, effectiveness of law enforcement, and relationships with other countries.

Here are the world’s top ten places to live:

1 – Vienna, Austria

Vienna is ranked number one in 2009 survey while it was on second number in 2008. Total population of the city is 1,664,146 and country’s total population is 8,210,281. The average age of people or life expectancy is 79.5 and GDP is $325 billion.

2 – Zurich, Switzerland

In 2008 Zurich was on top but this drop to second place. The population of city is 1,307,567 and country’s total population is 7,604,467. GDP is 309.9 billion and life expectancy is 80 to 85.

Places to Visit in 2009: Central Otago, New Zealand

The Cardrona Bra Fence of Central Otago, New Zealand, began in 1999 some time between Christmas and New Year 1999, when four women’s bras were found attached to the wire fence alongside the road. It’s unknown who did it and why. The news spread and soon more bras began to appear. By the end of February 2000 there were some 60 bras on the fence. At this time somebody took offence to it and removed them. The local press reported this and soon more bras began to come in.
