New immigration policy has been announced in UK. The bottom line of the new policy is that if your are a migrant worker in United Kingdom, You better be earning a minimum of £35,000 each year. If your don’t then we will not allow you to be settled in UK. No British Passport for you.
This policy however does not apply to migrant workers from EU member states. These New Immigration Rules will be effective from April 6th , 2012.
This new immigration policy is being appalled by almost everybody who is of sane mind. It is ridiculous and let me say that ministers have gone mad. UK’s whole national health system depends on services provided by migrant nurses. Britain’s education system relies on migrant teachers. More than 40% of IT professionals in UK are migrant workers. If the new immigration rules go live as they are going to be, there would be an exodus of huge proportions.
According to sources in Government, Half of all the migrant nurses will have to leave the country according to the new immigration policy. There is already a shortage of trained nursing staff. New nurses are not being trained and eventually whole of NHS will collapse.
Mr. Gail Adams, who is in charge of nursing at Union Unisom is reported to have criticized the UK Government on this New Immigration Rules
“The government should think again about these restrictions on overseas nurses. They have cut the number of nurse training places by 20 per cent over the last two years, which means we will not have enough qualified nurses to cover those coming up to retirement,” Adams said. “These crude restrictions will make matters worse and create skill shortages in the future. The quality of care will obviously suffer if hospitals cannot recruit the nurses they need to ensure a safe ratio of nurses to patients.”
In a recent article in India times, a very sarcastic comment was made by Ishani Duttagupta in context of recent changes to UK’s immigration Policy. I quote.
The chicken curry in Birmingham may not taste the same anymore. And the blame for this lies squarely with the United Kingdom’s new immigration policy.
